The Nebraska Coalition’s Survivor Leadership Project is a survivor-led, statewide initiative that centers survivors as leaders, partners, and experts in the movement to end violence. Driven by the Survivor Leadership Advisory Council, the project aims to uplift lived experience as expertise and create a culture of healing for survivors across the state.

We believe lived experience is essential expertise. When survivors of sexual and domestic violence, trafficking, and similar forms of violence hold real decision-making power, meaningful change can happen. Survivor leaders strengthen services, influence policy, shape systems, and transform communities. Survivor leaders are mentors, educators, advocates, directors, policy experts, and other leadership roles shaped by their own journeys.
The Survivor Leadership team, with guidance from the Survivor Leadership Advisory Council are designing and developing several key programs.
A hybrid training and leadership development program that offers interconnected learning experiences that build sustainable survivor leadership through training, mentorship, and ongoing support.
Equipping survivors with the knowledge, skills, and platforms needed to shape policies, challenge systemic barriers, and amplify survivor-led perspectives in the mission to end violence.
Fostering mentorship among survivors to create a community where survivor leaders can guide, inspire, and support peers on their journey toward healing, empowerment, and leadership.
Supporting survivors to engage in ethical, trauma-informed storytelling that honors boundaries and experiences, as well as, training organizations on ethical storytelling practices and survivor inclusion in media, communications, and public engagement.
The Survivor Engagement & Empowerment Network offers survivors an open and flexible community for connection, learning, and engaging in advocacy and public leadership.
The Survivor Leadership Support Network offers non-survivor allies, including advocates, professionals, and organizations, resources for supporting survivor leaders and their work.
