Preventing Violence

Violence is preventable. We can stop violence before it happens and build safer, healthier communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Sexual Violence

Sexual violence happens everywhere, including Nebraska, where an estimated 1.4 million people experience some form of sexual or intimate partner violence in their lifetime. Sexual violence has serious physical, emotional, and psychological effects on survivors, making it critical to believe and support those who experience it.

Stalking is more common than many people think. In Nebraska alone, an estimated 178,000 people experience stalking.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence—also known as intimate partner violence (IPV)—is a serious and widespread issue in Nebraska. Nearly half of the women and over a third of the men in our state have experienced it. These numbers represent real people—our neighbors, coworkers, and loved ones.

Human Trafficking

Human trafficking happens everywhere, including in Nebraska. The conditions that make people vulnerable to human trafficking, such as discrimination, economic stress, food insecurity, housing insecurity, and migration, exist in every community.

Teen Dating Violence

Teen dating violence happens everywhere, including in Nebraska, where sexual and intimate partner violence peaks between the ages of 15 and 18.

Findings from the 2020 Statewide Intimate Partner & Sexual Violence Survey shine a light on the prevalence and aftermath of violence in Nebraska. It also provides insight into how we can all contribute to ending violence in our communities.
