Presented by the Public Health Association of Nebraska in partnership with the Nebraska Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, this presentation will highlight brain injury, a frequently overlooked consequence of intimate partner violence, and discuss why recognizing and responding to brain injury is an important public health priority. Presenters will provide an overview of the prevalence and long-term consequences of brain injury among intimate partner violence survivors and present findings from Nebraska’s statewide initiative to implement brain injury screening and referral within intimate partner violence-serving community-based organizations.
Attendees will learn how partnerships among researchers and community-based organizations have facilitated the implementation of brain injury screening and referral in real-world practice. We will also share lessons learned from implementing brain injury screening and referral, including practical strategies for overcoming common implementation challenges. Finally, we will discuss recommendations for advancing practice, research, and policy to improve identification, support, and outcomes for intimate partner violence survivors with brain injury.
