Abra Poindexter recognized with Visionary Voice Award

This year, we are thrilled to recognize Abra Poindexter as our Visionary Voice Award recipient!

Presented annually by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC), the Visionary Voice Awards recognize individuals across the country who have shown outstanding commitment and leadership in the movement to end sexual violence. Throughout Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we are proud to honor Abra for her dedication, advocacy, and lasting impact in our community.

For more than 25 years, Abra Poindexter, LICSW, LIMHP, has been a guiding light for survivors of violence, trafficking, and systemic oppression. As a psychotherapist, consultant, leadership coach, and clinical supervisor, Abra’s unwavering commitment to trauma recovery and well-being has left an indelible mark on individuals and organizations alike.

Her leadership began early in her career as Director of Well Spring, Nebraska’s sole program at the time dedicated to serving survivors of trafficking. She went on to shape the anti-trafficking movement through both direct services and the creation of community-based programs. Through her work with organizations such as the Women’s Fund of Omaha, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Nebraska, and LGBTQIA+ leadership cohorts, Abra has continuously fostered resilience, hope, and transformation.

Her collaboration with the Nebraska Coalition on the Complexities and Hope: Serving Survivors of Trafficking Project was groundbreaking—creating a guidebook and training that equipped sexual violence advocates with the tools to work effectively and compassionately with trafficking survivors. Beyond her professional expertise, Abra’s courage in sharing her lived experience has instilled hope in countless survivors, demonstrating that healing is possible and within reach.

A mentor, a visionary, and a force for change, Abra’s work ensures that pathways to recovery are built on dignity, understanding, and the unwavering belief in every survivor’s right to thrive.
