Expanding Trauma-Informed Approaches in Our Advocacy and with Each Other
This workshop will offer the basics of trauma informed care using the SAMHSA principles: Safety, Trustworthiness & Transparency, Peer Support, Collaboration & Mutuality, Peer Support, Collaboration & Mutuality, Empowerment, Voice & Choice and Cultural, Historical & Gender Issues. We will use video, large and small group discussion, and scenario to better understand and respond to the multilayered impact of sexual and domestic violence.
Who should attend?
If you are a seasoned staff who wants a review of trauma informed care, or a new staff still trying to understand how to implement trauma informed care within your work , this workshop is for you. This offering is open to all staff within the Network of Programs and Tribal DV Programs.
Learning Objectives
• Review types of traumatic events including historical, intergenerational, collective, system and insidious. Explore difference of impact on individuals—mitigating factors.
• Discuss the neurobiological impact of trauma—Become Brain-Informed. Review behaviors associated with PTSD and Complex PTSD
• Consider everyday practices and environmental factors that can contribute to survivor anxiety.
• Learn of simple adjustments (tips) that can be made in approaches, both as an advocate and as a program, that can enhance emotional safety for survivors.
• Review dynamics of trauma reenactment and the Stages of Trauma Recovery.
• Learn how to expand these approaches to our relationships inside and outside of work.
