Webinar Series: Difficult Conversations: Serving Survivors Who Use Substances
The third in a three-part series exploring substance abuse and interpersonal violence, this webinar will feature a live Q&A with Kim Carpenter, Prison Advocacy Coordinator, and Michelle Miller, Sexual Violence Program Coordinator. They will discuss the barriers and challenges faced by sexual and domestic violence programs in serving survivors who use substances and will suggest strategies for advocacy, referral, and program accommodation. This webinar is open to Nebraska’s network of sexual and domestic violence programs and tribal programs.
After this webinar, participants will be able to:
• Describe policy considerations that could reduce barriers and improve program access for survivors who use substances.
• Identify strategies for training and supporting staff and volunteers who may work with survivors who use substances.
• Identify strategies for discussing substance use with survivors and engaging survivors who may be using.
• Identify strategies for partnering with substance abuse treatment providers and making appropriate referrals.
