#MeToo: Using Lived Experience in Our Work – A Roundtable for Advocates who also Identify as Survivors

Location: St. Monica’s Behavioral Health Services for Women, Willow Training Room | 105 Wedgewood St. | Lincoln, NE

Description: Our work is informed by our lived experience and advocates who also identify as survivors bring a unique perspective. This day-long roundtable will draw upon self-reflection and discussion to explore the ways in which survivor-advocates use their lived experiences in their work and considerations for deciding whether to share that lived experience with others.

Course Learning Objectives:

1) To celebrate the role of survivors in the movement and the unique perspective they bring to advocacy work.

2) To build leadership capacity among survivor-advocates.

3) To create a space in which advocates may:

o Enhance their sense of purpose and belonging through connection with other survivor-advocates.

o Explore the intersection between their role as advocates and their lived experience as survivors.

o Determine ways in which their lived experience informs or influences their work.

4) To assist survivor-advocates to recognize post-traumatic growth and opportunities for continued growth and healing.

5) To assist survivor-advocates to identify and apply strategies to prevent compassion fatigue.
